An organic EL device comprising a substrate (50); a pixel area having anode layers (60) formed on the substrate in a predetermined pattern, an organic EL unit (70) having organic layers stacked on the respective anode layers (60), an insulating protective layer (21) formed on the substrate (50) to open the organic EL device, and cathode layers (110) formed on the organic EL unit (70) and protective layer (21) in a predetermined pattern; and a drive area having thin film transistors (TFTs) formed on the substrate to selectively apply a predetermined voltage to the anode layers; wherein the anode layers (60) are formed of external light absorbing layers.
