An optical shutter is provided in the middle of a triopical path of the recording laser. Before a recording operation of data such as the images and the characters, the optical shutter is closed and also a recording laser light is outputted from the LD at a predetermined output rate. Then, immediately before the recording start of the data, the output of the recording laser is interrupted and also the optical shutter is opened, and then the recording of the data is started. Accordingly, there can be provided the image recording apparatus which is able to set the recording laser into its stabilized output state to record immediately after the recording start and to prevent generation of the irregularity of the images, the unevenness of the line width, etc.
