PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a comfortable air quality environment by detecting the number of people in a room more accurately by a simple composition using only an infrared ray sensor, and carrying out ventilation amount control by carrying out addition to a reference ventilation amount in response to the detected number of people in the room, in a ventilation device detecting the number and positions of people in a room, and controlling a ventilation amount. SOLUTION: The ventilation device is provided with the pyroelectric type infrared ray sensor detecting infrared rays emitted from people, an infrared ray condensing means 2 for selectively transmitting and condensing the infrared rays from people, a chopper means 3 for carrying out control such that intermittent incidence of the infrared ray and suitable changing of an incidence direction are carried out, a head count determining means 4 for determining the number of people in the room from an induction voltage distribution of the pyroelectric type infrared ray sensor 1, and a ventilation amount control means 5 for calculating an adding amount to the reference ventilation amount from the determined number of people in the room, and controlling a ventilation amount. By this, an effect can be provided, providing accurate detection of the number of people by a simple composition, and inexpensive and more fine control of the ventilation amount.
