PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver and a broadcast receiving method whereby assigning rules to a broadcast station not prioritized in a plurality of broadcast stations in a prefecture are stipulated to efficiently enhance a degree of assignment freedom. SOLUTION: When a received broadcast channel is assigned to a broadcast station among a plurality of broadcast stations in a prefecture in an in-prefecture broadcasting, the broadcast channel whose reception state is discriminated not to be excellent is assigned to a station selection position whereat a higher priority is assigned more than that of a broad area broadcast station and an out-area broadcast station. Further, when the received broadcast channel is assigned to a broadcast station among a plurality of broadcast stations in a prefecture in a broad area broadcasting, the broadcast channel whose reception state is discriminated not to be excellent is assigned to a station selection position where a higher priority is assigned more than that of an out-area broadcast station.
