768,253. Rotary pumps. SAUNDERS VALVE CO., Ltd. April 20, 1955 [April 28, 1954], No. 12325/54. Class 110 (2). A rotary pump having a piston 37 rotating eccentrically in a bore 14 in the pump casing 11 to press a flexible liner 17 progressively against the wall of the bore 14, the liner having an abutment 21, is characterized in that the liner is provided at one end with an outwardly turned flange 19 and at the other end with an inwardlyturned flange 18. The flange 19 is gripped between a shoulder 25 on the pump casing 11 and a detachable end-plate 13, a spigot 32 on the end-plate 13 limiting the axial compression of the flange 19. The flange 18 is gripped between an integral end-plate 12 and a flange 23 on a sleeve member 22, a shoulder 30 on the flange 23 limiting the axial compression of the flange 18. One or both of the clamped joints may include an annular V-groove 26 in one clamping surface and an annular V-rib, opposite the groove, in the other clamping surface. The piston 37 may be of bronze and is mounted by needle roller bearings 38 on an eccentric 36 on a shaft 33. The abutment 21 is slightly tapered and slides in a tapered recess 29 which is deep enough to prevent jamming as the rotor passes over it. The pressure on the discharge side of the pump presses the abutment 21 against one side of the recess 29 to form a seal between the inlet and outlet sides of the pump. The pump bore 14 need not be machined and may be lined with lead, rubber or glass. The flexible liner 17 is made of natural or synthetic rubber.
|
