A process for producing a glass ribbon by feeding molten glass to a forming member and causing the molten glass to flow downward from the forming member to form a sheet-like glass ribbon, comprising
temporarily cooling the glass ribbon while being caused to flow downward from the forming member, whereby the glass ribbon does not substantially vary in thickness, and afterwards
a reheating step of reheating and softening the glass ribbon to further reduce the thickness of the glass ribbon.
