Disclosed is a method of processing display data, by a host device (eg a PC) to be sent to a remote display device. The host device determines the display data to send to the remote device and compresses it. The host then determines the processing resources required at the remote device to decompress the compressed display data. The host computing device sends the compressed display data and control information about the processing resources required to decompress the compressed display data, to the remote device. The remote device then adjusts its processing resources based on the received control information, thus saving energy. The required processing resources could be the number processing units required, the clock speed required, or the operating voltage required. The host may determine the required resources for each display frame. The remote device may send details of its processing capabilities to the host device. |
