The actuator (40) has an excitation coil (46) for modifying magnetic field in a magnetic circuit based on current flowing in the coil to move movable parts (42, 44) e.g. armature and yoke, of the magnetic circuit between rest and active positions. A pole spring (50) is integrated to one of parts for coupling to fixed contacts (8) and soliciting the part into the rest position. Force of the spring is greater than that of a return spring (48). A measurement unit (34) measures the current flowing in the coil during a time when the parts move from the rest position to the active position. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an electric switchgear comprising a pair of movable contacts and an actuating device of the contacts (2) a method for determining wear of a pair of movable contacts of a switchgear.
