PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit which increases luminance, and to provide a projector including the light source unit.SOLUTION: The projector includes: the light source unit 63; a display element; and a projector control means or the like. The light source unit 63 includes: a fluorescent wheel 71 which has a plurality of segment areas on base material whose rotation can be controlled, at least one segment areas on the base material as a reflective portion, a fluorescent material layer that emits light of a predetermined wavelength band by receiving excitation light on the reflective portion, and a segment area in which no fluorescent material layer is formed as a transmission portion that transmits light; a first light source which radiates the excitation light of a visible light area onto a fluorescent material; a second light source 82 which emits light of a wavelength band that is different from the fluorescent light emitted from the fluorescent material layer and the excitation light emitted from the first light source 72; a light-gathering optical system which gathers light emitted from the fluorescent wheel 71 and light emitted from the second light source 82 to converge them to the same optical path; and a light source control means which controls the emission of light from the first light source 72 and the second light source 82. |
