PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type fixing apparatus for eliminating, on starting, the distortion peculiarity of a belt occurring in a paper nip section out of operation, and also to provide an image forming apparatus having the belt type fixing apparatus.SOLUTION: The lower end of a heat insulating cover 71 for keeping the surface temperature of a fixing belt 64 of the belt type fixing apparatus 37, and the top of a paper guiding section 69a on a fixing roller 62 side, of two paper guiding sections for guiding a recording medium 73 carried into the paper nip section 65 are formed to be shorter than a usual length. A roll off 72 expressed by a two-dot chain line is formed of the fixing roller 62, the lower end of the heat insulating cover 71, and the top of the paper guiding section 69a. When operation of a body device is commanded from a halting state, during warming-up, a heating roller 63 rotates in the opposite direction of that during fixing. A distortion part 64a of the fixing belt 64 having passed the roll off 72 is gradually decreased in distortion and corrected, by tension acting on the fixing belt 64 by rotation of the heating roller 63 of a main drive axis, and by heat heated while it is rotating along a circumferential surface of the heating roller 63. Then, the heating roller 63 rotates positively. |
