PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical filter for an image display device, the optical filter having high contrast under the presence of external light and near infrared absorbance.SOLUTION: The optical filter 100 includes an image contrast-improving filter 30 and a near infrared absorption layer 90, and optionally includes a front surface film 40 and an electromagnetic wave shield film 50. The filter 30 includes: dark color parts 10 that are formed on one surface S1 of a transparent substrate 4, are linear and arranged in parallel in the in-plane direction, and have a trapezoidal cross-sectional shape in a direction orthogonal to the extension direction thereof; and a light-transmitting area 20 between the adjacent dark color parts. The dark color part 10 is made by filling dark color particles 1 and a transparent resin 2 in a groove-like recessed part 3. In the light-transmitting area 20, a surface of the transparent substrate 4 is covered with a transparent protective layer 2L made of the transparent resin 2. The relation of t<dmin<dmax<W and t<dmin<dmax<H is satisfied among the minimum particle size dmin and the maximum particle size dmax of the dark color particles 1, the thickness t of the transparent protective layer 2L, and the maximum width W and the depth H of the groove-like recessed part 3. |
