The arrangement has gearwheels (Z1-Z4) arranged on shafts (1-3). The gearwheels are provided with middle points (M1-M3), which form corner points of triangle. Axial distance changing devices (4) i.e. eccentric tappet-systems, are arranged in an area of one of the shafts (2) i.e. pretensioning devices, with one of the middle points (M2) to change axial distances (a1, a2). The devices exert force (Fw) on one of the shafts (2) towards one of sides of the triangle. An eccentric tappet comprises a lever via which the tappet is swivelable with an inner eccentric tappet and a middle shaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for changing an axial distance in an arrangement of two gearwheel stages in a transmission.
