PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for PDP to achieve high luminous efficiency and low power consumption.SOLUTION: In a front view from display side of a discharge cell DC, a region of a dielectric layer facing top part of a barrier rib 11 is defined as a facing part to a front plate barrier rib, and a region of the dielectric layer facing a discharge space is defined as a facing part to a front plate discharge space. Among the front plate discharge space-facing parts, in a region which touches the front plate barrier rib-facing part to the region of a fixed distance towards the inside of the front plate discharge space-facing part, namely in a portion of an internal edge, a discharge inactive film 19 of a band shape with lower secondary electron emission characteristics than a protective film is arranged, which keeps a plasma-generating region away from the barrier rib 11 by restricting the plasma-generating region with a maintenance discharge performed between a maintenance electrode 2 and a scanning electrode 3. |
