PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strike a balance between the improvement of charge transfer characteristics when output of a charge from a charge storage area and the control of the occurrence of dark current during charge storage.SOLUTION: A depletion voltage in a charge storage area is generated in the range of 0 to a supply voltage/2 (V), gate potential of a transfer MOS transistor during a period of charge transfer is formed in the range of a supply voltage/2 to a supply voltage (V), and gate potential of the transfer MOS transistor during a period of charge storage is formed in the range of -(supply voltage/2) to 0(V).
