PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization-separation device which is excellent in separation characteristic of luminous fluxes different from each other in polarizing direction.SOLUTION: A polarization-separation device is equipped with: a beam splitter 16that includes a beam-separating surface, on which a luminous flux LBa and a luminous flux LBb are made incident while the incident angles are varied respectively; a polarizer 16arranged in an optical path of light beams having transmitted through the beam splitter 16; and a polarizer 16arranged in an optical path of light beams reflected on the beam splitter 16. When an angle θbetween the incident face of the light beam LBa and the polarization direction of the light beam LBa, and an angle θbetween the incident face of the light beam LBb and the polarization direction of the light beam LBb are close to 45° when the light beams LBa and LBb are made incident on the beam-separating surface, the beam-separating surface has a separation characteristic that at least either of |Ts-Tp| and |Rs-Rp| is small. |
