The valve (1) has a longitudinally-movable control piston unit (10) with a closing element (11.1), where the unit is supplied with spring force from a compression spring (14) in an area (9) of a pressure-compensated connection (8). The area is arranged between a valve seat (17) and a control area (19), and limited by a control piston (12) of the unit. Diameter (D1) of the piston is set larger or equal with respect to diameter (D2) of the element that cooperates with the seat to limit pressure at a fluid connection to predetermined maximum pressure value. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle brake system comprising a main brake cylinder.
