PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the communication cycle fast, by reducing the repeater delay which is generated, each time a communication frame transmitted over a network passes through a repeater unit. SOLUTION: A communication system is formed with a master unit having a communication function, and at least one or more slave units also having a communication function connected by a network including a bus. Repeater units are inserted on the network between the master unit and a predetermined slave unit in one or more stages. In the slave unit, a repeater delay time is set, based on the number of repeater units installed on the frame transmission path from the master unit; and based on the set repeater delay time, the reply timing of the response frame from the slave unit to the master unit is controlled.
