PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily recognize a distance in the depth direction of a subject contained in a stereoscopic image.SOLUTION: A stereoscopic image generating unit 5 generates a stereoscopic image by using two images obtained by imaging units 2A and 2B. A subject extracting unit 6 extracts the subject areas such as persons from the two images. A depth information obtaining unit 7 obtains a distance in the depth direction of the stereoscopic image of each subject area as depth information. A depth image generating unit 8 generates a depth image by arranging the subject images for the subject areas in the order of the distance. The subject images are rotated with respect to an axis perpendicular to the depth direction.
