PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which is made compact and is power-saved while being effectively prevented from redundantly reading a document, to provide a control method for the image reading apparatus, and to provide a sheet processing apparatus.SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a feeding means for feeding a document by means of a rotating object; an image reading means for reading an image of the document fed by the feeding means; a driving means for rotationally driving the rotating object; a detecting means for detecting a rotating direction and a rotating distance of the rotating object; and an image read control means for controlling the image reading means to read the image of the document on the basis of a forward rotating distance detected by the detection means when the rotating object turns in a forward rotating direction. The image read control means is configured to control the image reading means so as not to redundantly read the image of the document on the basis of a backward rotating distance with backward rotations of the rotating object detected by the detecting means. |
