A surgical coring system for off pump surgery, comprising a guide wire, a coring tool and a balloon catheter including various shaped balloon portions which are adapted to seal an apical hole in the left ventricle of a patient's heart and/or releasably secure the balloon catheter with respect to the apical hole.
