METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ENCODING AND DECODING LENGTH OF MEDIUM ACCESS CONTROL PROTOCOL DATA UNIT

PURPOSE: A method and a system for encoding and decoding the length of a medium access control protocol data unit are provided to encode the length information which exceeds a display enabling range in a length field of a previously defined size regardless of system performance. CONSTITUTION: If a length information value of a MAC(Medium Access Control) PDU(Protocol Data Unit) exceeds a first value, a transmitter splits the length information of the MAC PDU into first and second portions(1302,1304). The transmitter encodes the first portion to a first header of the MAC PDU(1306) and the second portion to a second header of the MAC PDU(1008). The transmitter transmits the MAC PDU including the encoded length information of the MAC PDU to a receiver(1312).
