PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detecting device capable of determining more surely whether the same object exists or not, and accurately performing tracking of an object highly. SOLUTION: An ACC system 1a is equipped with a stereo camera 11, a target tracking part 20, a preceding-car recognition ECU 30, and a traveling control unit 40. The target tracking part 20 has a width fluctuation history counter 21, a tracking reference determining part 22, and a tracking processing part 23. The width fluctuation history counter 21 counts the width fluctuation of an image target, and the tracking reference determining part 22 takes a tracking reference position at the near end to the stereo camera 11, in between the right and left both ends of the target, when the width fluctuations are large, and takes the tracking reference position on the center of the target, when the width fluctuation is small.
