PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain shift operation without using oil pressure supplied from an oil pump. SOLUTION: This belt-type continuously variable transmission comprises a turning member 11 provided turnably and coaxially with a pulley 5 and regulated in the axial movement; a motor 15 turning the turning member 11; and pulley thrust generating mechanisms 12, 13 converting the turning force of the turning member 11 into thrust applied in the axial direction of the pulley 5 to change the groove width of the pulley 5. The turning member 11 is turned by the motor 15 to apply thrust to the pulley 5 to thereby change the groove width of the pulley 5, thus performing variable speed operation.
