PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose ester film excellent in optical isotropy, particularly in optical isotropy in the direction of film thickness, a method for producing the same, a polarizing plate for a display, and a display.SOLUTION: The cellulose ester film has a planar orientation degree S represented by following formula (I) of 0.0004 or less, and has the retardation Rt in the direction of film thickness of less than 10 nm. The formula (I) is S=(Nx+Ny)/2-Nz, Rt=((Nx+Ny)/2-Nz)×d, wherein Nx is a refractive index in the slow axis direction in the cellulose ester film plane, Ny is a refractive index in the film plane in the direction perpendicular to the slow axis direction, Nz is a refractive index in the thickness direction of the film, and d is the film thickness (nm) of the cellulose ester film. |
