PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system which can prevent a terminal device to be used for identification and authentication of a regular user in personal authentication using human body communication from being illegally used by others.SOLUTION: A multifunction machine 10 communicates with a terminal device 30 connected through a user's body touched with a receiver 27 as a communication passage in accordance with user's (person to be authenticated) touch operation with the receiver 27, receives user's ID (authentication information) from the terminal device 30, detects a change of touch/non-touch due to the touch operation as a touch pattern, and performs user authentication (personal authentication) based on the received user ID and the detected touch pattern.
