PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage of a communication circuit element due to static electricity on both of two apparatuses for performing communication, and to eliminate a time required for activation of an apparatus in insertion/withdrawal of a communication cable by connecting and withdrawing the communication cable with the power sources of the two apparatuses on. SOLUTION: The communication relay apparatus 20 relays signals of each of input and output communication lines via photocouplers 25a, 25b. The apparatus 20 includes a control circuit 26 for executing control of on/off of power to be supplied from a power supply 27 to the photocouplers 25a, 25b and causing a switching circuit 28 to switch the communication lines in response to data of the predetermined communication lines.
