PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing system which decreases conversion into a wrong dictionary pattern when comparing an input image pattern with dictionary patterns. SOLUTION: In the image processing system, a measuring means measures the symmetry of an image pattern to be compared, a threshold value change means changes a threshold value in comparison on the basis of the symmetry measured by the measuring means, and a pattern comparing means compares the image pattern in accordance with the threshold value changed by the threshold value change means.
