PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line communication apparatus available only by directly being attached to a wire duct containing a power line, without requiring an additional outlet part, and to provide a power line communication system. SOLUTION: The power line communication apparatus is provided with: a housing 20 to be attached to the wire duct D including a conductor 10 connected to the power line PL; an electrode 32 connected to the conductor 10, and an electric wire 31; a power line communication modem 41 for separating a communication signal from power and modulating/demodulating the communication signal; a communication interface 42 for interfacing the power line communication modem 41 with a communication apparatus 8; a connector 5 into which a communication cable 80 is detachably inserted; and a connection holding means 6 for detachably attaching the housing 20 to the wire duct D, connecting the electrode 32 of the housing 20 to the conductor 10 of the wire duct D when the housing 20 is attached, and when the housing 20 is detached, disconnecting the electrode 32 from the conductor 10.
