PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerization inhibitor which inhibits the polymerization of a (meth)acrylic acid ester during its production process and scarcely contaminating the (meth)acrylic acid ester product after the distillation and purification steps, etc., and to provide a polymerization inhibiting method. SOLUTION: The polymerization inhibitor is a coordination compound of salicylic acid (SAL) and 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (4H-TEMPO) prepared by reacting SAL with 4H-TEMPO in an organic solvent at 50-100°C.
