A conveyor apparatus has twin drive chains 18 and twin tension sensors 124, measuring chain tension, such as via flight bars 20. Measurements of the tension in each chain 18, are compared, such as in an electrical comparator. In the event that there is a large difference between the two values measured, indicating a problem with, or breakage of, one of the chains, the conveyor is automatically stopped to save further damage, particularly to the remaining, undamaged chain. The conveyor may be mounted on a frame with two relatively slidable portions such that the length of the frame, and thus the tension in the chains 18, may be adjusted. |
