摘要 PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for measuring ellipticity of optical fiber are provided to use a sound wave progressing along with optical fiber, thereby measuring ellipticity of optical fiber by a non-destruction method. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring ellipticity of optical fiber includes a sound wave generating unit(10), a test optical fiber(20), and a measuring unit(30). A sound wave is applied to the test optical fiber by the sound wave generating unit. The measuring unit uses phase dispersion of sound waves progressing as long as a fixed distance in the test optical fiber. The measuring unit measures ellipticity of the peripheral part of the test optical fiber. Sound waves progressing in the test optical fiber are divided into sound waves with difference phases. The measuring unit measures ellipticity of the peripheral part of the test optical fiber by using phase differences of the sound waves.
