A plural tapered fastener with a material receiving inward region. Fastener embodiments have particular utility in penetrating and securing work pieces of high density material, such as medium density fiberboard and high density fiberboard, without blemishing of the workpiece. A fastener may have a head and a shank extending from the head with an axis being defined by the shank and head. A head projection extends from a proximal end to a distal end away from the axis. A tapered portion is provided in the shank which tapers the shank axially inward to the head to define a material-receiving tapered inward region. A further tapered portion is provided along a lower leading edge of the head projection. During fastener driving, the inward region receives displaced workpiece material and the tapered head projection better penetrates the workpiece providing for more complete fastener driving with minimized blemishing of the workpiece. |
