The sintered steel cam (2) comprises reinforcement structures diffused in ferrous material (20-30%), and nanostructures non-diffused in the ferrous material and acting as a solid lubricant. The nanostructures comprise nanofibers, nanotubes and nanopowders. The cam is obtained by sintering a powder including iron, carbon and reinforcement nanostructures, or by sintering the iron powder and carbon powder including reinforcement nanostructures. An independent claim is included for a process for obtaining a cam.
