Described are partial discharge sensors operated under an ultra broadband, which are useful for detecting partial discharges in high voltage equipments that are energised at 50 Hz or 60 Hz and during over voltage occurred during the presence of lighting or switching impulses. The sensors are located in a place where the electromagnetic field of the high voltage equipment to be tested is not distorted, but where the direct or indirect electromagnetic induction produced by a partial discharge is received thereby. Said coupling, being in close proximity, and the low capacitance of the ultra broafband sensors of partial discharges of the present invention, allow induction signals to be obtained, which may be analyzed for locating the place of the discharge and evaluate the magnitude and the pulse widths. The width pulse is directed according to the damage evolution or the degradation or aging of the place where the partial discharge was generated.
