PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer exerting excellent chipping resistance in high speed heavy cutting.SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool has (a) a Ti compound layer as a lower layer and (b) α type AlOlayer, as an upper layer, having a crystal grain structure having a plane polygonal shape (including a flat hexagonal shape) and a longitudinally long shape and containing Y (yttrium), which are vapor-deposited at a surface of a tool base body. Of the crystal grains in the upper layer, the inside of the crystal grains of ≥60% by an area ratio is divided by a crystal lattice interface comprising a constituent atom sharing lattice point form represented by at least one or more Σ3 s. |
