PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring the amount of deflection or the amount of movement which can enlarge a measurable range of the amount of deflection or the amount of movement in the direction of translation of a prescribed measured position of a measuring object accompanied by translational motion and rotational motion, in noncontact and without making periodic detection of the measuring object indispensable.SOLUTION: The method includes a process wherein light 3 emitted from a light-emitting part 2a is applied to a cylindrical surface 6a, and a process wherein reflected lights 5a and 5e from the cylindrical surface 6a according to the movement of the measuring object 1 accompanied by the translational motion and the rotational motion are received by a light-receiving part 2b and the amount of deflection or the amount of movement in the direction of translation of the prescribed measured position of the measuring object 1 is determined from positions of the reflected lights 5a and 5e in the light-receiving part 2b. |
