The tubular shaft (1) comprises an asymmetric front portion (6) and a symmetrical rear section (7), where a symmetrical section is formed. The tubular shaft is made both in one piece and two pieces, and is provided with one or multiple chip spaces. The shaft is made of different materials, such as heat-treated steel, high speed steel, carbide, ceramics or carbon fiber composites. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a deep hole drill shaft.
