Disclosed is a method for extracting hexavalent chromium, for highly efficient extraction of hexavalent chromium from polymer material. The method for extracting hexavalent chromium is characterized in that a fatty acid is added to the polymer material to obtain a liquid sample, water or an aqueous alkali solution is added to this sample, and hexavalent chromium contained in the sample is dissolved in the water or aqueous alkali solution. A fatty acid of C11 or higher is preferred. An aqueous alkali solution with a concentration of at least 0.1 mol/L and no more than 1.0 mol/L is also preferred.
