PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of suppressing generation of a rattling sound without complicating a structure.SOLUTION: Slight rotation torque is generated on a motor by ECU also having assist characteristic that a non-sensitive band area is offset from basic assist characteristic to a right assist direction and assist characteristic that it is offset to a left assist direction, and it is made to the state that backlash is not present between a drive gear and a driven gear. In the state, even if reverse input from a road surface is present, since both gears can maintain the state that they are abutted on each other, generation of the rattling noise can be suppressed. Further, the ECU attain smooth steering feeling having no uncomfortable feeling by selecting the assist characteristic that the assist direction is reversed when an absolute value of any one of right and left steering torques is returned to the state that it is smaller than a predetermined value after the absolute value of any one of the right and left steering torques is increased and becomes larger than a predetermined value (absolute value of T0 and T3). |
