PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problem of a conventional spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which the plasma generated in the combustion chamber by electromagnetic wave is reacted with a spark discharge by an ignition plug to ignite an air-fuel mixture wherein the operating conditions of the engine depend on the state of generation of the plasma.SOLUTION: This method for controlling the operation of a spark-ignition internal combustion engine controls the intensity of an electric field generated in the combustion chamber according to the operating conditions of the spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which the electric field is reacted with a spark discharge by an ignition plug to generate plasma for igniting an air-fuel mixture. A current (S1) flowing in the combustion chamber when the plasma is generated is detected by the ignition plug. Based on the detected current, the state of generation of the plasma is determined. |
