PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify methods for prolonging cell life span.SOLUTION: There are disclosed cells having an increased amount of Bcl-xprotein and their use in protein production. The invention provides a method for prolonging cell life span as a means for enhancing protein production of cell, regardless of whether the protein is one naturally produced by the cell, or whether the protein is a heterologous protein to the cell. Accordingly, in one aspect, the invention provides a method for increasing production of a protein by the cell, comprising a process of increasing expression of an anti-apoptosis gene in the cell. In a specific embodiment, the cell does not express a heterologous cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor. In another specific embodiment, the cell is a human cell, a murine cell, a hamster cell, an insect cell, or an amphibian cell. |
