MOVING IMAGE DECODING METHOD, AND MOVING IMAGE CODING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image coding technology and decoding technology with much higher efficiency of compression.SOLUTION: A coded stream is input which includes a first coded flag indicating information on a block to be used for prediction processing and a second coded flag indicating information on a block to be used for frequency conversion processing. The first coded flag is decoded to discriminate a position and a shape of the block to be used for prediction processing, and the second coded flag is decoded to discriminate a position and a shape of the block to be used for frequency conversion processing. Variable length decoding processing is performed on a coded prediction difference included in the coded stream, and the discriminated shape of the block to be used for frequency conversion processing is used to perform inverse quantization processing and inverse frequency conversion processing, thereby decoding the prediction difference. The discriminated shape of the block to be used for prediction processing is used to perform intra-screen prediction processing or inter-screen prediction processing, thereby producing a predictive image. The decoded prediction difference and the generated predictive image are added to produce a decoded image.
