METHOD FOR REMOVING HEXENEURONIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing hexeneuronic acid, by which the hexeneuronic acid in pulp can simply be removed at a low cost without damaging pulp fibers and is little in environmental loads.SOLUTION: This method for removing the hexeneuronic acid is characterized by irradiating bleached pulp with ultraviolet rays having wavelengths of 100-300 nm under a condition having pH of ≤4. The method is especially preferably performed for ECF-bleached or TCF-bleached hardwood kraft pulp in which the hexeneuronic acid is liable to remain.
