PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a conjugated diene such as butadiene by catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of a monoolefin such as n-butene, which method can more safely be carried out and can stably produce a conjugated diene at a higher yield.SOLUTION: The method for producing a conjugated diene including a process of mixing a raw material gas comprising a 4C or greater monoolefin with a gas comprising molecular oxygen, supplying them to a reactor, and subjecting them to oxidative dehydrogenation in the presence of a catalyst to obtain a product gas comprising a corresponding conjugated diene, is characterized in that the concentration of a combustible gas present in the gas supplied into the reactor is not lower than the upper explosion limit and the concentration of oxygen present in the product gas is not lower than 2.5% by volume and not higher than 8.0% by volume.
