The present invention is related to the field of cartilage physiology, repair, and regeneration, hi particular, the invention contemplates a treatment for bone healing disorders, especially those related to the articular joints and bone, by upregulating chondrocyte proliferation. For example, inhibition of cysteinyl leukotriene activity on chondrocytes by using cysteinyl leukotriene- 1 receptor antagonists may be useful in preventing and treating bone healing disorders. This invention also relates to other physiologic conditions which are influenced by chondrocyte activity, including pediatric long bone growth and neoplastic conditions involving cells of chondrogenic origin.
