PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter element and a filter having an elongated service life.SOLUTION: The filter element 1 has a plurality of gas holes 3 in the axial direction of a columnar ceramic porous body 2. The gas holes 3 include gas leading-in holes 3a opened on one side end in the axial direction of the ceramic porous body 2 and gas leading-out holes 3b opened on the other side end of the ceramic porous body 2. Gas passes through a partition 4 between the gas leading-in holes 3a and gas leading-out holes 3b from the gas leading-in holes 3a and led out of gas leading-out holes 3b. The ceramic porous body 2 is formed by joining crystal particles 11 of an aluminum titanate type containing Al, Ti, Mg, Fe and O with one another, with an amorphous phase 13 containing Si. The content of Si in the partition 4 is larger in the gas leading-out hole 3b side than in the gas leading-in hole 3a side. |
