PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code symbol reading device for providing a mechanism for segmenting a code region even to a design bar code or the like having various design elements, and for preventing the design bar code from being unread and a program for controlling the code symbol reading device.SOLUTION: The code symbol reading device is provided with: an image pickup part 120 for outputting the multi-gradation image signal of a pickup image formed in an area image sensor; a line write-in part 21 for overwriting a line pattern having a prescribed gradation value over the multi-gradation image signal output from the image pickup part; a symbol region segmentation part 22 for segmenting the region of a code symbol to be read from the image of the multi-gradation image signal edited by the line write-in part; and a code symbol reading part 23 for reading the code symbol with the image region output from the symbol region segmentation part as a target. |
