PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a thermal printer by which differences in the amount of curling between sheets of printing paper, which occur during printing, can be reduced while a cost increase is suppressed.SOLUTION: The method for controlling the thermal printer 1 forms an image by transferring ink layers Y, M, and C applied to an ink ribbon 20, to printing paper 16, by means of heat generated by a thermal head 11 with a plurality of heat generation elements, and then forms an overcoat by transferring an overcoat layer OC applied to the ink ribbon 20, to the surface of an image. The method includes a heat generation quantity calculation step in which a quantity of heat generated by the thermal head 11 during image formation is calculated; and a heat generation quantity determination step in which a quantity of heat generated by the thermal head 11 during the formation of the overcoat is determined based on the quantity of heat generated during the image formation calculated in the heat generation quantity calculation step. |
