PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-absorbing material which makes it possible to exhibit high photoelectric conversion efficiency when applied to a photoelectric conversion element.SOLUTION: The light-absorbing material has a structure represented by following formula (1): X-Y (1) (wherein, X represents a light-absorbing site; and Y represents a radical site that becomes a radical in at least one of an oxidized state or a reduced state and that allows repeated oxidation-reduction). Specifically, there is exemplified the light-absorbing material of a structure represented by, e.g. formula (12) or formula (13).
