PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new lactic bacterium highly producing GABA (γ-amino butyric acid), to provide a food containing the GABA enriched by using the lactic bacterium, and to provide a method for producing the food.SOLUTION: The lactic bacterium having the production ability of the GABA is Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis NITE P-741, or Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis NITE P-742. The food containing the GABA enriched by carrying out lactic acid fermentation by using the NITE P-741 or the NITE P-742 is also provided. The method for producing the food having the enriched GABA includes carrying out the lactic acid fermentation by using the NITE P-741 or the NITE P-742.
